Welcome to Birch Class.

Our class teacher is Mrs Gristwood and we are very lucky to be supported by Mrs Hassam, Mrs Ali, Mrs Patel and Mrs Gelou!

In Numeracy we will be learning about how to tell the time and how to pay with money looking at why we need money and how we use it. Our focus is still on number and we are aiming to be able to count in 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's forwards and backwards. Year 2's are also learning these as multiplications. We will be covering mass and measurement using the signs '>' and '<' to compare and order and will be describing the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

A big thank you to all parents who are supporting their children with their counting in 2's, 5's and 10's as this is really helping them with their learning in class.

In English we are learning about 'Growth and Green Fingers' linking this to the stories 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and 'Oliver's Turnip'. We will be writing our own stories and writing instructions on how to make our own vegetable soup.

We are still working hard to write a 'high 5 sentence' and are thinking of different ways to make our writing exciting.

We are also focussing on our reading and comprehension, making sure that we are understanding what we are reading through answering a range of different questions.

This half term our topic is 'Fairies and Frogs'. It is a thematic unit, based around fairy tales, with a key focus on literacy and drama. It is designed to enable pupils to develop a love of stories, as well as providing a vehicle for creative arts work. The focus stories are The Ugly Duckling and Jack and the Beanstalk.

We have done some fabulous artwork with Mr Hugh Templeton when he came into school last week! Mrs Gristwood is so proud of the work we produced that she put it up on display for everyone to see!
