Chestnut

Welcome to Chestnut Class 2023!

Mrs. Ahmed is the class teacher. Miss Valimulla (our class teaching assistant) will be supporting children in class on Thursdays and Fridays and Mrs. Chatti will be providing 1:1 support in the mornings . Mrs. Smith will be teaching PE each alternate half-term, but this won't begin untill Autumn 2.

Reading

Reading is a really important part of the curriculum and as well as at school we encourage children to read at home whenever possible. Parents can help with this by encouraging children to read food labels, leaflets, recipes etc. In Chestnut class children will have:

Home Readers: Children are given home reading books. They need to be listened to at least three times a week and have their reading record books signed. Please note, if there are no signatures, the week will not be counted towards the reading awards.

  • If they have their book signed 3 times for  10 weeks they receive a Bronze award.
  • If they have their book signed 3 times for  14 weeks they receive a Silver award.
  • If they have their book signed 3 times for  18 weeks they receive a Gold award.

Children will be assigned to a day on which they will have their books changed. You will be informed of the day during the first week of school.

AR Reading books:  Children need to read their AR books independently and take a quiz to assess their understanding of the text. They will need to score at least 80% to get a pass. Unfortunately, children can not then resit the test. It is important to make sure that they read it properly with understanding.

These books will be changed at least once a week but there is no designated day for the change - as and when the children have completed the quiz they can have their book changed.

P.E. /Swimming days

On Mondays & Fridays, children will need to come to school in their P.E. kits.

Swimming for Chestnut Class has not been confirmed yet from Daisyfield Swimming Pools, but we are not due to go till later on the year. This will be confirmed in due course.

Homework

Homework books are handed out on a Fridays and are due back on Mondays.

The homework will be a mixture of English or Maths every week and will focus on what we have been learning or what we need to focus on.

Spellings & Timetables: Each week, children will be given spelling words and timetables to revise for the following week.  Spelling tests will take place on Wednesdays and Timestables will be on Thursdays.

Passwords for any logins are glued in the red reading record books.
