PSHE, including Health and Relationship Education

Overall school aims and objectives

Daisyfield is a caring place which values every member of its school community. We have high expectations and enjoy helping everyone achieve. We encourage everyone to achieve the best in all aspects of their lives. Our school is a bright and stimulating environment where learners are challenged. We provide opportunities for first hand experiences which will develop skills for later life. Children are encouraged to respect the values and beliefs of the global community as we prepare them to embrace their part in an ever-changing world. We have a secure and nurturing environment where children achieve, rise to challenges and learn and grow with pride and confidence.

What are the aims and objectives of our PSHE programme?

Our programme aims to assist children and young people to prepare for adult life by supporting them through their physical, spiritual, cultural, mental, emotional and moral development, and helping them to understand themselves, respect others and form and sustain healthy relationships, including online. We believe in the importance of relationships and the qualities and character needed to sustain the best relationships, whether it be within a friendship or family. Daisyfield Primary School will teach children the essential skills and attributes including decision making, problem-solving and communication skills that they will need for life outside school, through a rigorous programme of study in PSHE, including HRE. These skills will help our children in all areas of their life, including academically, through the development of a Growth Mindset, skills of negotiation and risk assessing. PSHE, including HRE, will also train them to transfer learned skills to other situations and contexts.

What are our intended outcomes?

Through the teaching and learning of PSHE including HRE, children develop the knowledge, skills and attributes in order to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work. PSHE lessons will enhance their learning related to topics including anti-bullying; keeping safe on and off line; keeping physically and mentally healthy, learning about drugs, alcohol and tobacco; and the development of skills and attributes such as communication skills, managing peer pressure, risk management, resilience and decision making. (Linking to PSHE Association's overarching aims, essential skills and attributes.) Through the core themes of health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world, the children will be prepared for the reality of life beyond the school gates and will have their cultural capital enriched.
