Welcome to the Sycamore Class page

Miss Parveen- Class Teacher

Miss Begum supports us in class

In Maths we will be focusing on telling the time in 5 minute intervals, identifying 2D and 3D shapes, measuring- length, mass and capacity and we will continue to focus on number. Counting up and down from any number to a 100 and beyond, number bonds up to 20 e.g. bonds to 7, 8, 9, 13 etc. Counting in 2's, 5's and 10's ready to learn our table facts. We also need to focus on written calculations to help solve tricky problems.

We are getting competitive with learning our timetables! Each class has a special timetables mountain, children need to aim to reach the top of mountain but they must be able to learn their bonds up to 20, count in 2's, 5's and 10's and then learn the timetables fluently to reach the summit! Children can aim to get to the summit at any point in the year once reached children must be continue to learn their times tables!

This term our writing topic is going to be based on 'stories with a familiar settings' using the Roald Dahl books as inspiration. Children will also be reading a range of poetry linked with this theme, they will edit and refine existing poems and then perform them to the class. Children will be involved in the reading and responding process, gathering and then the writing stage throughout their English units. I will also be looking out for these features in the writing stage and it would be really helpful if you could do the same when encouraging children with their writing at home.

Topic

This term our topic is called 'Never Eat Shredded wheat' Children will be learning about Fruits and Vegetables from around the world, the journey the fruits and vegetables take to reach us from where they are grown. Children will be involved in following the journey of the coco bean to chocolate at the 'Chocolate House', children will also have the opportunity to plant a variety of seeds and visit a local allotment.

Homework will be given out on a Thursday and is due in on the following Tuesday. Please make sure they are handed in on Tuesday so we have enough time to provide new homework and reading books!

PE is on Monday and Friday this half term but P.E bags must be kept in school every day so that if the timetable does change we are still able to do PE!

Swimming will take place in the Summer Term-further details will be given out closer to the time!

If you have questions or queries, please do not hesitate to speak to me and the start or at the end of the day!
