Willow

Welcome to Willow Class!

Mr Ainarkar is the Class Teacher and Assistant Headteacher. I will be teaching Willow Class every morning for English and Maths.

Mrs. Patel is our Teaching Assistant and HLTA and she will support all the children in class.

Mrs. Heffernan/Mrs. Patel will be teaching in Willow Class every afternoon.

Reading

All children are expected to read to an adult at home least three times a week.

Reading is an important skill and practising at home helps the children build their comprehension skills and their reading stamina.

Reading Badges

In order to earn their Reading Badges, the children must read at least three times a week and have an adult sign their Reading Record. The children can read the same book for more than one week, once they have finished the book, they can bring it to school to be changed.

End of Day Read

Again, we will be pushing the children to develop a love for reading this year and therefore the children have been given a choice of two books to vote for as their new 'End-of-Day Read'.

In Spring Term, we have begun reading 'Wonder' by R. Palacio. The children absolutely love it!

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is an online programme which the school has invested in to further help children with their reading. This reading programme aims to match a reading book with your child's current reading age.

To access the Accelerated Reader your child will read a book from a fabulous selection in school, take an online quiz, and then will get immediate feedback.

Children will then respond to regular feedback and will be motivated to make progress with their reading skills. The class teacher is also informed of their progress and is able to offer support in school.

The children have all been given their login details. Once logged on, your child can take a quiz. The questions on the quiz will all be based around the book your child has read. It is essential that the children answer all the questions independently so that we can understand each child’s individual needs. Please do not support your child with the quiz.

P.E Days

Our P.E. days are Thursday and Friday.

Children need to come to school in their P.E. kit, they can wear their school jumper/cardigan as well as their P.E. kit.

They will also need non-black soled trainers for their P.E. days.

Homework

Homework books are handed out on a Friday and are due back on Mondays.

The homework will be a mixture of English, Maths and our Foundation Subjects.
