Chestnut Class

 

Welcome to Chestnut Class with Miss Barnes, Mrs Moosa and Mrs Dadhabai. Mrs Heffernan will teach Chestnut Class on a Wednesday afternoon.

 

In Chestnut class we have high expectations; we are resilient and we are a team!

 

Chestnut Class - Spring term.

Our new topic for this half term is Out of the Box!

“Out of the Box” is based on creating and selling a healthy food product, with a key focus on enterprise, science and PSHE. It begins with a healthy cooking talk leading into ?finance education, recipe design, making, packaging, marketing and presentation activities.

In English, we are learning about Stories by the same author and Non-chronological reports. 

 

 

In Mathematics, we are learning about: Place value, addition and subtraction; Fractions; Division; Volume / Capacity & Mass; Counting Sequences; Multiplication. We are also using the times table mountain challenge. (See attachment below) 

 

 

In P.E we are covering ball games. On Fridays, we are going swimming!

 

 

 

We will now be starting to learn Spanish! So far we have learned about Spain and are ready to take on the challenge of a new language. We will learn common phrases, letters and numbers.

11.11.19 As part of our topic: Come and Join the Celebration and our learning about Navaratri we took part in a Bollywood dancing workshop. We had so much fun!

06.11.19 As part of our learning about Chinese New Year we have been making spring rolls! Ask your child all about it...

01.11.19 Today we had a visit from the artist: Hugh Templeton. Hugh taught us the skill of observational drawing. We drew New York city using a step by step method. The results were fantastic. A great opportunity for the children which they really enjoyed! Well done, Chestnut Class.

04.10.19 This week we have been learning about floating, sinking and water displacement. We put a ball of Plasticine into the jug and it sank. When we changed its shape (see the picture below...) it floated! Can your child explain why?

20.09.19 Topic: It's All Greek To Me... Today we tasted food that Ancient Greek people would have eaten! Its safe to say there were mixed reviews about the taste of some items but we had great fun! We tried: figs, olives, pomegranate, mixed beans, bread and goats cheese.
