School Vision

At Daisyfield, we believe spoken language to be essential in the development and achievement of our children across the curriculum. Everyone has the right to feel heard and valued. We will support every member of our school community to have the confidence and emotional intelligence to communicate effectively, build positive relationships and prepare for their next steps in life.

Not only do we feel it is important to teach children to learn to talk, we also believe that children learn most effectively through talk. We encourage talk in all our lessons to allow children to collaboratively discuss ideas, thoughts and judgements. Children take responsibility for their own learning through talk and discover new information in pairs, trios, quads, and a variety of other groupings.

What is oracy?

Oracy is to speaking what numeracy is to mathematics or literacy to reading and writing. In short, it's nothing more than being able to express yourself well. It's about having the vocabulary to say what you want to say and the ability to structure your thoughts so that they make sense to others.

Discussion Guidelines - we use these to support our Oracy skills in speaking and listening

Talk Detectives - Mrs Uddin and Miss Ukadia became 'talk detectives' during our Science lesson. They were looking for children who included others into their discussion, respectfully disagreed and gave evidence to support their view. They then reported back to the class what they had found.
