In maths our main focus will be number, counting up and down from any number to a 100 and beyond, number bonds to 20 e.g. bonds to 9, 12, 16 etc, understanding the value of digits in a 2 digit number and making sure we can confidently count in 2's, 5's and 10's ready to learn our table facts. Children will review the written calculation strategy from year 1, consolidate and build on written strategies to help them solve tricky calculations. We will also be focusing on shape, measurement, length and mass.
We are getting competitive with learning our timetables! Each class has a special timetables mountain, children need to aim to reach the top of mountain but they must be able to learn their bonds up to 20, count in 2's, 5's and 10's and then learn the timetables fluently to reach the summit! Children can aim to get to the summit at any point in the year once reached children must be continue to learn their times tables!
This term our topic is going to be based on 'Here come the pirates,’ we will be reading a range of exciting pirate stories that have a familiar setting.
Children will be involved in many activities such as creating wanted posters, writing setting and character descriptions, role play, hot seating and collecting adventurous vocabulary that we can use in our very own pirate story with a familiar setting. Children will practise writing good, quality sentences that include adjectives, verbs, conjunctions and the use of correct punctuation and grammar.
