What an amazing day we have had! When we arrived, we enjoyed some free time with sports and activities on the field. Next we took part in four activities: bug hunting, scavenger hunting, butterfly spotting and exploring soil. We enjoyed holding lots of insects! Then we had an interactive talk with Farmer Helen who taught us all about how sunflowers grow, the structure of the plants and we discovered how soil supports plant growth. Helen dug down into the soil so that we could investigate this further.
During this activity, we managed to spot a deer in the wild! The deer stayed and munched on the grass nearby whilst we watched and waved. Farmer Helen couldn't believe our luck as she has never seen deer in the day time out on the farm before!
After that, we enjoyed lunch in the cow shed, followed by a delicious ice cream! Next we explored the sunflower field. We each chose our own sunflower which was cut and wrapped for us to take home.
Then we took part in a calf naming competition. We each chose a name for the new calf. The winner will be announced tomorrow and will receive a gift voucher for a free ice-cream!
Finally, we had a choice of colouring or free play to end our day.
We had so much fun, all whilst learning lots about plants.
