    Welcome to Aspen Class 2026-27

We are delighted to welcome you to Aspen Class for the 2026-2027 academic year. Mr. Ainarkar and Mrs. Patel are the class teachers, supported by Mrs. Dadabhai and Miss Taju.

We look forward to sharing our learning journey with you throughout the year, celebrating the children's achievements, and giving you a glimpse into the exciting activities, memorable experiences, and special events that make Aspen Class such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Thank you for visiting our page. We hope you enjoy following our adventures and successes throughout the year!

    English

In English, we are studying the unit Novel as a Theme and have been exploring the wonderful story Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo. Through our learning, we have already discovered so much about tsunamis and developed our writing skills by exploring a range of literary techniques, including personification, DAD sentences, relative clauses, repetition, and other forms of figurative language.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed immersing themselves in the story and analysing how the author creates atmosphere, emotion, and suspense. We are now looking forward to using all of our learning to plan, draft, and write our own imaginative stories independently, applying the skills and techniques we have developed throughout the unit.

    Mathematics – Place Value

In Maths, we begin the year by focusing on Place Value. The children will develop their understanding of numbers up to 1,000,000, learning to read, write, compare and order large numbers with increasing confidence. They will explore the value of each digit within a number, represent numbers in different ways, and use their knowledge of place value to solve reasoning and problem-solving challenges.

Throughout the unit, children will also count forwards and backwards in powers of 10, and develop their understanding of rounding numbers to different levels of accuracy.

By building strong place value knowledge, children will establish the foundations needed for the rest of their mathematical learning throughout Year 5/6.

    Reading

We encourage all children to read with an adult at least three times each week. Reading is a vital skill, and regular practice at home helps children to develop their fluency, comprehension, confidence, and reading stamina.

To earn their Reading Badges, children must read a minimum of three times per week and have their Reading Record signed by an adult. Children may keep the same book for more than one week if they have not yet finished it. Once a book has been completed, it can be brought into school to be exchanged for a new one.

    P.E Days

Our P.E. days are Monday and Tuesday.

Children should come to school dressed in their full P.E. kit on these days. They may wear their school jumper or cardigan over their kit if needed. Please ensure that children also have a pair of suitable trainers for P.E. lessons.

    Homework

Homework will be set on Fridays and should be completed and returned by Mondays.

We encourage all children to take pride in completing their homework to a high standard, as it provides valuable opportunities to reinforce learning and develop independence. This is particularly important as we work towards the Year 6 SATs in May.
