    Science - Classifying Living Things Big and Small (Spring 1)


    English – Heroes & Villains: Older Literature (Spring 1)

    In English this term, Aspen Class have been studying Older Literature (The Tempest by William Shakespeare) and ultimately producing their own modern retelling of a particular act. The children worked hard to make sure they used some archaic language and original text.

    English – Heroes & Villains: Poetry with Imagery (Spring 1)

    Children have also learnt all about how to use figurative language and add this into poetry created by themselves about a particular literary hero of their choice. Here was one wonderful example, from many, of an independently written poem:


    Art – Mixed Media and Portraits (Spring 1)

    This term, children have created self-portraits using different materials and techniques. They have learnt how to use colour, texture, and design to show their ideas and personality, while building confidence and creativity in their artwork.


    Music – Looping and Remixing (Spring 1)

    This term, the children have shown great confidence and creativity in music. They have performed rhythms and loops in time with their group, played 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' with accuracy and created their own remixes and structured pieces using different loops—all demonstrating fantastic progress and teamwork!

    History - Greek Workshop (Spring 1)

    This term, children have learnt about life in Ancient Greece, including their gods, cities, and famous thinkers. They compared Athens and Sparta, found out how early democracy worked, and explored how Greek ideas still influence the world today. They also enjoyed a special workshop with a visitor who taught them more about Greek life and culture.


    Computing - Blogging (Autumn 2)

    This term, children have learnt how to plan, write, and share their own blogs. They explored the features of successful blogs, worked together to plan their ideas, and created blog posts for a real audience. Pupils also learnt how to comment safely and responsibly, understanding the importance of online behaviour, approval processes, and how to prevent cyberbullying.


    Science – Animals Including Humans (Autumn 1&2)

    Over the past two terms, children have learnt about the circulatory system, healthy diets, exercise, and making positive lifestyle choices. They carried out practical experiments, such as measuring their heart rate during physical activity and exploring osmosis using potatoes. Pupils also explored healthy eating by creating pictures and images with food to show balanced meals and good food choices.


    Computing - Coding (Autumn 1)

    Over this unit, children have learnt how to design and create their own computer games and programs. They explored how to use timers, scores, variables, and functions to make their games work. Pupils learnt how to test and fix problems in their code, use flowcharts to plan ideas, and include user input.


    Art - Drawing : Depth, Emotion and Movement (Autumn 1)

    This term, children have learnt how to use lines, colours, and shading to show feelings, movement, and depth in their artwork. They have looked at how artists arrange their work to make important parts stand out, designed and created their own prints, and practised improving their ideas using their sketchbooks.
