We celebrated World Book Day by coming to school in our favourite pyjamas or comfy clothes. We also brought in our favourite books and spent time reading them throughout the day. To finish, we wrote book reviews and recommended our favourite reads to others, using persuasive vocabulary to explain why they should read them too.

In English this term, Aspen Class have been studying Detective Fiction and the book Isaac Turner Investigates The Clockwork Conspiracy by Sam Sedgman. In the video below we have used the drama/oracy technique of creating a conscience alley to discuss the 'fors' and 'against' of the question: Should Isaac let his Dad leave him alone?

As part of Aspen Class’s Enterprise Month project, the children will be creating and selling delicious mixed sweet cones. All profits will go towards helping to subsidise the cost of their upcoming class trip.
The sweet cones will be priced at **£1 each**, and members of Aspen Class will visit classrooms tomorrow and Wednesday to take orders. Orders placed during this time will be delivered on Friday.
After half term, we will again be taking orders on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with delivery on the Friday of that week. We hope the sweet cones will also make lovely iftar treats or gifts during Ramadan.
Payments can be made either at the time of ordering or upon delivery on Friday.
We truly appreciate your continued support and look forward to you helping the children of Aspen Class make this project a success. Thank you, as always, for your encouragement and generosity.
Team Aspen!

In English this term, Aspen Class have been studying Older Literature (The Tempest by William Shakespeare) and ultimately producing their own modern retelling of a particular act. The children worked hard to make sure they used some archaic language and original text.

Children have also learnt all about how to use figurative language and add this into poetry created by themselves about a particular literary hero of their choice. Here was one wonderful example, from many, of an independently written poem:

This term, children have created self-portraits using different materials and techniques. They have learnt how to use colour, texture, and design to show their ideas and personality, while building confidence and creativity in their artwork.

This term, the children have shown great confidence and creativity in music. They have performed rhythms and loops in time with their group, played 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' with accuracy and created their own remixes and structured pieces using different loops—all demonstrating fantastic progress and teamwork!

This term, children have learnt about life in Ancient Greece, including their gods, cities, and famous thinkers. They compared Athens and Sparta, found out how early democracy worked, and explored how Greek ideas still influence the world today. They also enjoyed a special workshop with a visitor who taught them more about Greek life and culture.

This term, children have learnt how to plan, write, and share their own blogs. They explored the features of successful blogs, worked together to plan their ideas, and created blog posts for a real audience. Pupils also learnt how to comment safely and responsibly, understanding the importance of online behaviour, approval processes, and how to prevent cyberbullying.

Over the past two terms, children have learnt about the circulatory system, healthy diets, exercise, and making positive lifestyle choices. They carried out practical experiments, such as measuring their heart rate during physical activity and exploring osmosis using potatoes. Pupils also explored healthy eating by creating pictures and images with food to show balanced meals and good food choices.

Over this unit, children have learnt how to design and create their own computer games and programs. They explored how to use timers, scores, variables, and functions to make their games work. Pupils learnt how to test and fix problems in their code, use flowcharts to plan ideas, and include user input.

This term, children have learnt how to use lines, colours, and shading to show feelings, movement, and depth in their artwork. They have looked at how artists arrange their work to make important parts stand out, designed and created their own prints, and practised improving their ideas using their sketchbooks.
